Mark IV Controllers Replacement with ICS State-of-the-Art RT-7 Control Systems

Mark IV replacement Frame 7          Brazil to cut greenhouse emissions

February 21, 2010 - Brazil faces increasing demand for power. At the same time, the country plans to reduce its greenhouse emissions by almost 40 per cent by 2020. In order to achieve that, many power generating companies are converting their turbomachinery fleet from heavy fuel to natural gas.

ICS has been awarded a contract to convert to natural gas two GE Frame 7B turbines. Both units are located on the shores of the Amazon River in Manaus, Brazil.

As part of the project, ICS is building delivery system that will bring natural gas to the engines. ICS will also replace existing GE Mark V controllers with state-of-the-art RT-7 redundant control systems. New controls will communicate with the Balance of Plant system that delivers gas to the turbines. Both Frame 7Bs will work with dual fuel and water injection for NOx reduction. The project is expected to be completed in just 9 months.
